Becoming well
When we think about health, we often go straight to the physical. Diet, exercise, and sleep; it’s what we’re taught to monitor and improve. While physical health is absolutely foundational, it’s just one piece of a much larger, deeper puzzle that is our overall well-being.
For me, my journey began with the physical. I wanted to feel better, to have more energy, and to show up for life more fully. But what started as a focus on my body slowly opened up doors I hadn’t even known were closed. I began to face parts of myself I’d long buried; emotions, memories, and truths that I didn’t want to acknowledge. With each layer I peeled back, I realized that true well-being is not just about how I look or how many hours I sleep, but how I feel in my own skin, in my own heart, and in my own mind.
Mental health became just as vital as physical. I learned that my feelings are valid and not up for debate. That realization alone was life changing. There is real power in accepting your emotions, in honoring your story, and in giving yourself permission to heal on your timeline, not someone else’s.
I also discovered something incredibly freeing, that not everyone will understand your choices. They may question, judge, or push back but their response is theirs and not your responsibility. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for prioritizing your well-being. That boundary is a gift you give to yourself.
For some, well-being also includes a spiritual dimension. A connection to something greater, whatever that may look like. For me, exploring that part of myself brought even more clarity, peace, and alignment.
What I’ve come to believe is this: well-being is never a finished product, it’s a lifelong journey. It shifts as we grow, as we face new challenges, and as we evolve. Life will always have its uphill climbs, but it’s in those moments of struggle that we stretch, strengthen, and move closer to who we’re truly meant to be.
So wherever you are on your path, know that your journey is valid, your well-being is personal, and you are allowed to make it yours.
